2026 WebTPA Quarterly Newsletter
To help keep you informed and supported throughout the year, we're launching a quarterly newsletter with brief updates designed to share timely insights, helpful resources, and important operational updates.
A Message from Lisa Tranberg
With the first quarter already behind us and Q2 well underway, I’m incredibly proud of—and genuinely impressed by—what the WebTPA team has accomplished and what is already in motion for 2026. This progress is especially meaningful given the continued turbulence and uncertainty across our industry. From large-scale 1/1 implementations to post–go-live stabilization efforts, our teams have remained focused on ensuring everything works exactly as intended for our clients.
Over the past few months, I’ve had the opportunity to join our account team in a number of annual client review meetings held from February through April. I’ve been heartened by the quality of analysis, problem-solving, and collaborative dialogue taking place in these conversations. Our teams are deeply focused on delivering practical insights, actionable analysis, and thoughtful ideas—whether that’s addressing challenges head-on or identifying opportunities for cost savings. This kind of partnership is one of the primary reasons I joined WebTPA more than a dozen years ago, after having been a client myself for nearly a decade. Even then, I believed this collaborative, hands-on approach was a differentiator for WebTPA, and that belief has only strengthened over the years. We don’t just talk about high-level concepts—we work side by side with our clients to bring those ideas to life in ways that genuinely support their unique needs.
Looking ahead, we see both challenges and opportunities shaping the remainder of the year. Artificial intelligence, in particular, has rapidly become a transformative force in the market. What was once a topic few wanted to discuss is now top of mind for employers, vendors, and employees alike. At WebTPA, we’ve begun a thoughtful journey to educate our teams and establish a responsible, security-first approach to AI. Used wisely, we believe AI has the potential to meaningfully enhance our business—reducing processing times, accelerating day-to-day operations, and allowing us to scale efficiently without adding unnecessary complexity. The next six to twelve months will be pivotal as we determine how best to leverage these tools and deliver real value as a result.
At the same time, we’re operating in an increasingly contentious and fast-changing environment when it comes to consumer perceptions of healthcare and benefits delivery. While WebTPA is not a large insurance carrier—and therefore not directly in the spotlight—we fully expect administrative and regulatory impacts driven by executive actions, regulatory changes, and broader market shifts. Through it all, our commitment remains the same: to support our clients through periods of change with transparency, insight, and partnership. We’ll continue to use this newsletter and our regular communications to share what we’re seeing, what we’re learning, and how we’re responding.
Advisory Council Recap
Established in 2021, our Client Advisory Council is comprised of current clients from various business segments that meet twice annually—with rotating client representation—to provide feedback on WebTPA’s initiatives and discuss key developments shaping the industry. Below are the highlights from the Council meeting in Q1.
2025 Performance Snapshot
WebTPA demonstrated significant scale, efficiency, and operational throughput in 2025.
2026 Goals & Strategic Initiatives
The organization outlined several core focus areas for 2026:
- Operating Efficiency & Optimization
- Future Leader Development
- Clinical Enhancements
- Cybersecurity Roadmap Continuation
- Client & Revenue Growth
- Completion of SOC 2 Audit
These initiatives signal a balanced strategy emphasizing operational excellence, security, leadership development, and scalable growth.
Market & Advisory Engagement
- The meeting then pivoted to a discussion of 2026 market and industry trends, indicating AI dynamics, pressure in the industry around cost escalation, new vendor proliferation, and the continued need to simplify the member experience.
- The Council asked for continued review and discussion of AI enhancements and how both WebTPA and GuideWell (corporate) is addressing the opportunities and challenges of leveraging AI capabilities, continued discussion around ways to address cost trend pressures, and updates on WebTPA initiatives this year.
We’ll continue to share updates in future newsletters.
Independent Dispute Resolution Services
The Independent Dispute Resolution (IDR) process under the No Surprises Act (NSA) continues to present growing challenges for group health plans. We are seeing a significant increase in provider-initiated disputes, along with a concerning trend of unfavorable determinations, including awards on claims that may not meet NSA eligibility requirements and, in some cases, amounts exceeding billed charges. These outcomes create additional financial and fiduciary risk for plans and reinforce the importance of careful claim evaluation before entering the IDR process.
In response, WebTPA is enhancing its approach by increasing client engagement on certain IDR determinations and partnering with The Phia Group as an option to help support our clients’ Open Negotiations and IDR strategy. Phia’s team of legal, clinical, and reimbursement experts brings a structured, compliant approach designed to improve defensibility, reduce unnecessary disputes, and better protect plan assets.
RxDC Reporting Update
We are pleased to share that we successfully submitted this year’s RxDC reporting on your behalf on May 6. All required files were aggregated, submitted to CMS, and accepted—ensuring full compliance with federal requirements prior to the June 1 deadline.
What is RxDC Reporting?
RxDC Reporting was established under the Consolidated Appropriations Act and is an annual requirement designed to provide the federal government (CMS) with greater transparency into healthcare spending. The report captures key data points such as prescription drug costs, the breakdown of premium contributions between employers and employees, and overall plan spending. This information helps regulators better understand the factors driving healthcare costs and inflation.
In December of 2025, we launched Availity Authorizations for clients that use Communitas to allow providers to submit authorizations and upload clinical documentation via the Availity platform. This enhancement allows providers to check the status of existing authorizations and eliminates the need for phone calls and faxes. Since launch, we continue to see increased adoption of the tool and look forward to continuing to improve efficiencies for all parties.
Availity Essentials continues to serve as a centralized platform for managing eligibility, claims, and post-claim activity across participating payers. Our team attended the Availity Connects conference in April, which was focused on simplifying healthcare through operability and connection.
Key Claims Drivers: Plan Considerations
Based on the key claims drivers below, we have outlined actionable plan considerations to help guide planning and decision making for 2027. Connect with your Account Executive to discuss in more detail.
Recommendation: Redirect to lower-cost settings (urgent care, PCP, virtual care) and evaluate plan design for 2027.
Insight: Spend and utilization is up ~25% on average
- Increased prevalence in ages 26-44 and 45-64 (anxiety, depression, mood disorders)
- Autism-related diagnoses increasing nationally
- Increase in inpatient cases tied to suicidal ideation and substance use disorder
Recommendation: There is the opportunity to steer to in-network providers. Data also shows that early intervention (< age 6) has improved outcomes.
Insight: ~70-80% of utilization tied to behavioral health.
Recommendation: Continue promoting telehealth as a key access point to appropriate care.
